Founders KBS

On Tuesday night, April 10, we’ll be serving not one but two rare species of beer: Founders KBS (in bottle) and Southern Tier Pumking Ale (op tap). We’ll start serving them at 5:00 pm.

Founders KBS is “an imperial stout brewed with a massive amount of coffee and chocolates, then cave-aged in oak bourbon barrels for an entire year to make sure wonderful bourbon undertones come through in the finish.”

Southern Tier Pumking Ale is described by RateBeer thusly: “As spicy aromas present themselves, let it’s deep copper color entrance you as your journey into this mystical brew has just begun. As the first drops touch your tongue a magical spell will bewitch your taste buds making it difficult to escape the Pumking.”

Bruce Springsteen & the E-Street Band Return to Madison Square Garden

Bruce Springsteen on Tour

Bruce Springsteen on Tour

Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band come to Madison Square Garden on Friday, April 6 and Monday, April 9.

“The Boss” has been a legend for nearly four decades, first and foremost among them is his concerts. Word on the street is that not event the loss of “The Big Man,” saxophonist Clarence Clemons, is slowing him down, and indeed may be inspiring the whole band.

What’s your all-time favorite Bruce show?

Many point to this show at the Hammersmith Odeon in 1975, a copy of which was distributed in 2005 with the 30th anniversary edition of Born to Run.

For our money, we’d give anything to have seen live Bruce’s performance during the legendary No Nuke Shows at Madison Square Garden in 1979.

To be honest, we can’t argue with the characterization of this as the best-ever performance of Rosalita, in the Capital Theater in Passaic, NJ in 1978.

Enough nostalgia! Many are saying this Wrecking Ball tour is the best Bruce and the Band have been in many years; it seems especially true when he pulls some chestnuts from the catalog, such as this rendition of Talk to Me.

So you’re going to the show; the question you really want answered is “what’s the best bar near Madison Square Garden?”

Because we make nearly every list of best bars in NYC, beer lovers have long flocked to Rattle N’ Hum before and after shows at Madison Square Garden, enough of them to get us named one of the best beer bars in America! We’re about a six-minute walk away, on 33rd St. between Madison and Fifth Avenue. We’re know for having forty ever-revolving taps of world famous craft beer, and more than 100 different bottles. Lately, we’ve also become know for our food, with a fresh take on classic pub fare, with items such as Baby Lamb Sliders, Celtic Cubano and Rattle N Hummus, all of which we suggest beer pairings for.

In a matter of uncanny timing, on Friday April 6, we’ll be featuring beers from four of the best breweries in the country – Lagunitas, Smuttynose, Ballast Point and Victory – in an East-West showdown. So before you go off to see Bruce Springsteen at his best, you can catch us at our best, with one of the more exciting beer events we’ve held this year.

St. Patrick’s Day Parade Information

Posted in Uncategorized on March 16, 2012 by RattleNHumBar

Looking for information on the St. Patrick’s Day parade?

When does the St. Patrick’s Day Parade begin?

The parade begins at 10:45 a.m., and it continues until the last marcher finishes, some time around 3:00 – 4:00 pm.

What is the St. Patrick’s Day route?

It begins near 44th St., on Fifth Avenue, and continues straight up to 79th St.

What is the weather for St. Patrick’s Day in NYC?

Current forecast is for a high of 62, partly cloudy, little wind, small chance of precipitation.

Where is the best place to watch the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in NYC?

The best area is near the beginning of the parade route, in the mid-40s on Fifth Avenue. This is before the crowds get too thick, in the 50s, but not as far uptown as you’d otherwise have to go.

Where is the best place for Brunch on St. Patrick’s Day in NYC?

Rattle N Hum has the best St. Patrick’s Day Brunch. It opens at 8:00 am on St. Patrick’s Day and will be serving Irish breakfast, and other Irish food specials all day long. Once you’ve had your morning meal with us, it’s a mere 10 minute walk to the beginning of the parade route.

What is the best place for lunch on St. Patrick’s Day in NYC?

You need to avoid the places in the area around the parade, as they are all insanely packed, and many raise their prices just for the day. You want to find a place that’s a reasonable walk, with terrific hospitality, fabulous food, and, this being St. Patrick’s Day, the best Irish beer in NYC. That would be…. Rattle N Hum.

What is the best place for dinner on St. Patrick’s Day in NYC?

Ditto.

Where is the best place to drink on St. Patrick’s Day in NYC?

Need you ask? Rattle N Hum has 40 taps of beer that we constantly rotate, 4 casks, and more than 100 beers in bottles. Thanks for the softball on this one.

Who is St. Patrick? Why does he have a day and a parade named after him?

Patrick was born in Great Britain in the late fourth century. When he was 16, he was captured by Irish raiders and taken to Ireland, where he worked as a shepherd and drew close to God. “I used to pasture the flock each day and I used to pray many times a day,” he wrote. “More and more did the love of God, and my fear of him and faith increase.”

After six years in Ireland, he escaped. He was reunited with his family, but a dream urged him to return to Ireland. Patrick spent the ensuing years training to be a priest. He returned to Ireland around 432 A.D. to begin preaching Christianity to the predominantly pagan population.  He played a significant role in converting the majority of Ireland’s population.

The first St. Patrick’s Day Parade in the US was held in Boston in 1737. In NYC, they’ve only been holding them since 1762.
